Actually you probably made the best choice in not purchasing your system
with an oem install of Office. To date it's best to have your very own
installation cd(s).
If you are running Windows XP sp2 this could be your problem on installing
Office 97.
Do a search here:
http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx
or on the appropriate Google group for information on problems encountered
installing Office 97 on Windows XP.
Your version is a qualifying product to purchase an upgrade to Office 2003,
see here:
