We have a Windows 2000 Server-based network with a number
of client OSs ranging from 98SE to XP.

Our local installations of Office 2000 Professional on the
98 clients have never shown us any trouble. Network users
log on and use the applications and save their work to a
private network share on the server quite nicely.

The 2K and XP clients however have caused us nothing but
grief when it comes to installations of Office 2000
Professional. We have installed the programs locally using
the "Run all from my computer" option. Still, network
users are annoyed by installation procedures coming up
every time they launch an Office application.

Access is the worst. Admin staff with shortcuts to
databases, whether they be stored locally or on the server
cannot use those shortcuts to open the databases. The act
of clicking on a shortcut brings up an attempt to install
some feature of Office from Disc 2 that fails no matter
where we point it to find the files. However, if the user
launches Access first and then browses his or her filing
system for the same database, it opens without issue!!!

I have tried to search the KB and the Resource Kit to find
something that can help us resolve this situation. Could
the IntelliMirror feature being misconfigured be something
to do with it? What does anyone suggest to correct it, if
so?

Sorry for the long-winded post, but staff and students of
our local high school are all being frustrated by this.
We'd really like to finally be able to fix it.

Thank you,
Gary Allan High School
