I recently ended a session on my laptop by shutting down.
It froze instead of turning itself off as it sometimes
does. After a minute or two I turned it off.
Next day, I turned on the computer and got a error message
about a system problem but it continued to boot but with a
very small display area and no modem driver installed. It
did not say safe mode in the four corners, as it was
supposed to. I think I blew the registry somehow.
I reselected the correct video driver
I reselected the internal compaq modem driver
logged onto windows update; got an "but your not an
administrator" error message usu. only for windows xp
users,
reinstalled ie ver 6 from my harddrive
got onto windows update and downloaded some critical
updates.
THEN I REALIZED THAT I COULDN'T USE ANY OF MY OFFICE 2000
PROGRAMS! Although the program files seem to be intact, I
get an error about them not being installed. I do not
have access to an installation diskette to reinstall. How
can I tell windows that the software IS installed??
Please help! I need to continue my work and I need my
msword to do it! Thank you everyone for your help!
