I found out how to remove Office XP via the Control
Panel, when I kept getting "This patch package could not
be opened". I found that I had to edit the registry; goto
Start, Run, type in regedit. Delete all keys
called "patches". Regedit procedure was to make a backup
copy of the registry then use Find "Keys" (Values and
Data deselected), "Match whole string only"
for "Patches". I deleted each instance (there were
three).
After this was done I was able to remove Office from the
Control Panel and then reinstall it.
