Office 2007 "Not Responding" on Open, Save As

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I am running Office 2007 SP2 on an HP Pavilion dv6 with Vista Home Premium.
Every time I try to open or save a document, I end up with a "Not Responding"
dialog. I have read through the Forums, and have tried editing the registry
as indicated; or changed the default printer; and have seen articles about
defective Updates (but these weren't on my machine since they date back to
2006 and weren't on my machine). I am not connected to any domains, nor am I
connected to any network drives. I have turned off my Verizon Internet
Security Suite to no avail.

Any ideas? This is extremely frustrating and I have wasted hours already
researching this.
