Office 2007 has recently developed a problem on my XP-Home system. If I
click on the "Open" icon in either Word or Excel, then the application
hangs. I can only open existing documents from the "Recent Documents" list.
Also, I can "Save" a document but if I try to "Save As" then the system will
hang. I've tried uninstalling Office 2007 and reinstalling but the problem
persists. I've Googled and read several variations of the problem but no
clear solution. Office 2007 worked fine on this system for a long time. I
have noticed that in Word, the problem apparently disappears if I hit
Cntrl-P (bringing the print menu) then hitting ESC. After that I can "Open"
and "Save As" perfectly fine. For Excel, I can't find a work-around. I'd
like to solve this problem as it is quite debilitating to have Office
perform as poorly as it is. I have run Office diagnostics and had no
reported issues. I have also run Word in safe mode and the problem still
persists.
Can anyone offer assistance?
