Thx for your concern,
I have continued to search for a resulotion and found some information about
how Office works.
I have found that when you open a document in Word it will create a hidden
owners file in the same directory, named ~$filename.doc.
Now I only have to find out why this file is not created for User1 and
User2. I think it's still created but maybe not in the folder where it should
be.
The quest continues

in regards to word07, i do know
that when a save as is done there
are additional options provided for
saving drafts and server sharing.
perhaps, the above is a clue.
perhaps, the copy opened by
user 2 is not the actual doc
in use by user 1.
you might try an experiment
and have both users type their
name at the top of the document
then do a save.
this would help distinguish the
who and the what and perhaps
the where.

They are not using Groove and it doesn't feel like they have the need for it.
The shared folder is on a hosted file server, running Windows Server 2003.
Any more suggestions?

Have 3 users, User1, User2 and User3 and they all use Office 2007.
User1 creates a Word document and saves it on a shared folder.
User1 keeps the document opened in Word.
User2 opens the document User1 created.
User2 doesn't get info that the file is in use by User1.
User3 opens the document User1 created.
User3 gets info that the file is in use by User1.
I can't find the settings why it works for User3 and not for User2.
It's is very important that this works because now User1 and User2 can work
in the same document and write over the information the other person just
entered in the document.
All help is appreciated.
