Hi Tom,

Do you have any network drives that are mapped but not available? If so, you may want to try disconnecting those.

Word is asking Windows to show it the file tree structure and Windows is usually trying to get to all of the 'should be there'
drives and pinging them to see if they're active.

on XP using Office 2007, I have a real problem where I am trying to save a
document and the system will come back with:

Initializing Root folders

This will go for about 10 seconds.

Then I can navigate only to one folder. When I go the next folder it
freezes. I can't close the window with the "x" but can do a cancel. When I
try again, the same thing happens except for the "Initializing Root
Folders".

What is causing this and how do I get rid of it?
