Microsoft Word 2000 Professional keeps crashing on Vista

For the past couple of days Microsoft Word 2000 has been crashing 5
minutes into editing a document and I can't figure out what the
problem is. It has worked fine for a year but now all I get are
hourglasses and "not responding", what could have happened to my
computer in the last week to cause this to happen? I've run my virus
scan and it doesn't seem to come up with anything.
