Only if you backed them up, which, BTW, is a good idea. Back up is a computer user's best friend. That said, maybe the tech backed them up for you. Search for .pst and make sure the search includes hidden files.

I think you are getting confused between Windows XP, which is an OPERATING system and OFFICE XP which is an Office suite. if the repair person re-installed WINDOWS XP as opposed to OFFICE XP then, yes, you have lost all your emails and contacts unless you have a backup...
