Word 2003 document not displaying properly in Word 2007

Greetings-
I have many Word 2003 documents that have images copied and pasted
from various locations placed in them. This method has always worked
for me. Usually they are images copied out of a PDF.

Now when I open these same documents in Word 2007 most (but not all)
of the images are displaying as black rectangles.

I've tried everything else recommended but cannot get this to go
away. The only that does seem to work is to find a machine that still
has Word 2003 on it....which doesn't seem like much of a solution at
all.

What am I missing?
