RE: Why won't office 2007 install?

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Are your machines networked? Could you create a share on your second machine
copy the source to it and then access it from comptuer #1 and run setup?

Even though your 3rd file copy seemed to be successful.. the error message
still indicates source read failure.

I probably do have a h/w issue with my DVD player but I'll tackle that
problem later . . .

Even trying to install from c: (once I finally got it copied) I got the same
installation error.

The disk did install properly on my desktop computer. Since I make the same
registry change (to get my public folder on d: instead of c:) on my desktop,
I suspect the problem lies with the fact that this computer came with a trial
version of office 2007 pre-installed.

I uninstalled the trial version, but get the same error. The uninstall left
the trial version's "activation assistant" behind. I try to put in my new
product code at the activiation assistant screen, but it will not let me.
(which makes sense, because office 2007 is no longer on the computer).

Since I can't install, I'm at a dead end - and I have .docs, .xls, and .ppts
I need to work on . . .

Hmmm.

So the error you are getting indicates that it can't read a file needed for
setup.

When you try to copy the contents to the hard drive you get blue screens 2
out of 3
times...

I would guess you have a hardware failure with either the dvdrom or the hard
drive.

Are you able to use that same DVD to install office on a second machine?

1st and 2nd copy attempts caused the computer to go to the blue screen and
reboot (tried to copy to the d: partition)

I was able to copy on the 3rd attempt - this time to the c: (where VISTA
resides)

unfortunately, I received the same error

Try to copy the contents of the disc to a local folder. If the copy is
successful try to install from there.

I get the following "setup error" at the start of installation:

"Setup cannot continue because a required file is either corrupted or not
available. Run setup again from the original source disc or download
location."

However, I am using the original source disk - sent straight to me from
Redmond under Microsoft's Home Use Program.

It turns out the my computer came with a trial version of office 2007 that I
didn't even know about. I uninstalled this version, but the problems still
persists.

Maybe this has something to do with me trying to change the location of my
data files by following this advice:

"Change the Public folder locations in the registry. Run regedit and change
the values within
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Shell
Folders"

Please help - I am very frustrated that I can't even install this software
