Hmmm...I suspect you are leaving out a few vital details. Your post doesn't make sense to me. You start with Office 2003 appearing without your knowledge and then transition to having lost the 25 digit product code. You have to admit...that is rather strange.

In general, a PC does not spontaneously upgrade Office on its own. I really doubt that you could turn off your PC and turn it back on to see Office 2003 magically installed. You *must* have installed the upgrade (or at least someone did without your knowledge).

Let's assume you actually do have Office 2003 on your PC now. Yes, you will be able to open and edit your existing Office 2000 documents. Don't worry about icons on your desktop...if you have Office 2003 installed, you will have Office 2003 icons on your desktop.

If you have lost your Office 2003 product code, there are a couple of free programs that will tell you the product key that is installed. One is Belarc
Advisor (get it from www.belarc.com) and the other is Magical Jelly Bean's Keyfinder (get it from www.magicaljellybean.com).

Since it's not clear if you actually have Office 2003 installed on your PC, the answer to your last question is: the cost varies depending on the version you purchase. Also, stores probably are not stocking Office 2003 now that Office 2007 has been released.

I have an emachine that is about 2years old. I was using office 2000, The
other day I turned my computer off and when I turn it back on all of my
office 2000 icons were gone and replaced with office 2003 icons. I have alot
of work in office 2000. I know I can go to search and all of my programs will
come up. Can I do this and send all of my office 2000 icons to the desktop,
if I do this will this bring back all of my office 2000? If I want to up
grade to office 2003 how do I transfer my files from office 2000 to office
2003. Also I notice when I want to update to office that I need a 25 number
code, I have lost that. Please tell me how get another code and how much will
it cost.
