The problem is getting the Windows XP TabletPC Edition. It is only available pre-installed on Tablet PCs and via MSDN/TechNet.
I don't know if it will see the Wacom tablet. I have never tried it.
Microsoft made the decision to remove the tablet input support from Office 2007 probably in 2004 or 2004 (pure guess based on Microsoft's release cycle for Office). At that point in time, Vista was probably still on track and was supposed to have more features than it actually ended up shipping with. The massive Vista delay that followed must have caused the Office division a lot of pain. I'd assume that a lot of their decisions were based upon Vista shipping quite a bit before Office. So users would probably be further along in upgrading to Vista than they are right now. With that assumption, I would argue that the decision made sense back then. Unfortunately when Vista got delayed, it was probably too late for the Office division to go back on major decisions like this one. So now, we users are stuck with the annoying dependence on Windows features that are mainly available in Vista for speech & handwriting input.
In short: Blame Vista, not Office ;)

That really stinks. Is this just a ploy to get us to buy Vista???
Why would people upgrade to 2007 office if office XP supports ink without a
tablet...too bad I already did...
I have an awesome Wacom tablet...just not Windows Tablet PC...this bites.
If I get Windows Tablet edition, does it see my Wacom tablet? Can I
basically use that instead of actually owning a tablet PC?
