Re: Uninstalling Office 2000 Premium Edition

If it says you need the CD, you need the CD.

It's a lot of work to manually delete Office 2000, but it is possible to
do. The following procedure was provided by a Microsoft person some
time ago in one of the Office newsgroups:

1. Download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup utility from
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=290301

2. Run this utility and check if Office 2000(or other Office version) is
listed.

3. Select Office Products and then click Remove.

4. Click Start, and then click Run.

5. In the "Open" (without the quotation marks) box, type "regedit"
(without the quotation marks), and then press ENTER.

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system.
Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from
using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

6. Backup the entire registry and then rename or delete the following
registry keys if present:

We have a user who has come from out UK office to Australia with a
laptop
that has Office 2000 Premium.

Typically nothing was tested and tried before the user left, they just
grabbed any laptop that was spare stuck the laptop in the bag and
assummed it
would work when they needed it. Absoulutley nothing unusual about that.

Whenever he tries to run any Office applications it wants the CD so
that the
component can be installed. We don't have this CD as we run Office 2000
Pro
here. He didn't bring it with him.

I want to uninstall Premium and install Pro but I also need the CD to
uninstall it.

So how do you get a copy of office off the laptop without the original
cd. I
assume there must be a way otherwise how would you uninstall software
that
you are not licensed for.
