i guess it wouldn't hurt
to see if maybe the server
at microsoft can jump start
your office system if you
think there is nothing
else to loose
http://support.microsoft.com/offxpset
it could be likely that because of
microsofts vigorous attempt to
curtail piracy, your restore point
had some old office files that could
not over write any newer ones...
lets see if the link above can give
you the additional options
to syncronize your office files - hopefully.

ok, a suggestion might be
to see if the steps work in safemode.
sometimes safemode can help
with a variety of issues that are
found in normal mode.
also, try doing a check disk
from either safe or normal mode.
a check disk might help too.
go to start, run, cmd
then at command window type
chkdsk /f and reboot to engage
the check.
afterwards, try something else
that came to mind
go to start, run, services.msc
then start the office source engine
service. maybe this might help
too.
all of the above is worth a try
and might end up futile.
maybe you machine came with
office pre installed and that is why
you don't have the disks. If so, then
the office setup files are on your harddrive
somewhere.
maybe you might do a restore from
a point further back in time and regain
the frontpage error again...
i ponder on this some more. the archives
between my ears are pretty deep and dusty...
let me know your results and thoughts...

It IS in the add/remove programs window, but it is completely
unresponsive.
It can't seem to read the disk and mentions problems with the patch.
That's
when I decided I was stuck.

is there an entry for office in
add/remove programs? if so,
see if the setup launches.

We run Office XP Pro with FrontPage at home, but we were forever
having an
install window pop up when trying to use Excel, but not for Word,
Outlook
or
PowerPoint. I thought I would uninstall FrontPage since the install
window
referenced that particular program, and we don't use it. Of course, it
wiped
out all of Office. Not happy. Used the Windows XP restore option. Now
the
programs are there, but nonfunctional. To add to the frustration, the
computer doesn't seem to recognize our backup copy of the software. (I
cannot
find the original software CD.) I've tried running Office Update from
Office
Online but it aborts. Was going to uninstall-reinstall, but uninstall
failed.
I'm stuck.
