Office 2003 Products hanging

Hi,
I'm running XP v2002 SP2, Media Center Edition.
I recently installed Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.11.
I recently installed (but had not run by the time the problems started)
Mozilla Thunderbird.
I'm having new problems with Outlook and Word (and sometimes IE)
hanging. Outlook is basically unusable now.
Once the application hangs, it will not close either directly or
through Task Manager.
When I disconnect my dialup connection, the application closes.
When I then redial my ISP, I get a successful [from the modem sound]
connection, and then an "Error 50: All Devices Connected" error and
have to completely restart Windows to get connected again.
Often, Outlook hangs as soon as it opens, although if it doesn't, then
as soon as I try to forward an email that contains non-downloaded
images, it notifies me to OK downloading the images in order to forward
the email, I agree, and then it hangs. (The images are from sites I
believe are trustworthy.)
Word seems to hang immediately also.
This is a relatively new occurrence. Possibly related, I recently
added
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\MaxConnectionsPerServer
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings\MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server
but have since removed them (and saw no improvement).
Virus scan with up-to-date Norton yields nothing.
AdAware scan (also up-to-date) yields nothing.
I'd be happy to read any thoughts on what I might be able to do to fix
this.
Thank you,
jw
