It just sounds like you need to change your proofing dictionary. On
the Reviewing tab, in the Proofing group, click Set Language. Select
your desired language, such as English US, and click the Default
button.
You may need to select any text you previously typed and change the
proofing language since the change will only affect new documents
based on Normal.dot.
Also, if you do not want to use French, from the Office Button select
Word Options and on the Popular tab click Language Setting and remove
any languages you do not want to use.
Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

I just installed Office 2007 final and now my spell checker
uses a French dictionary rather than English to check my
spelling. Of course, since I type in English, most words are
flagged as wrong. How can I get English back? It's not listed
as a choice in Tools/Options/Spelling.
