Re: New Update for Office 2007 Beta has problems (office2007b2tr)

Yes, I did open two files at first, then worked on that one file only. May I
know why you think that would be a problem?

More precisions: I use XP SP2, and the file I was working on is in a Groove
shared folder, but shared only between my two computers. I updated Groove as
well, with the latest technical refresh, at the same time that I updated
Office 2007 beta.

Thanks,
Catherine

Let me wager another guess: You opened not just one but two files at the
same time for that journal? And it crashed whenever you opened the
second one? Or was it just one file?
Don't feel vulnerable. NAV's Office plugin really doesn't give you
anything that NAV alone plus Office security can't.

Thanks very much, Patrick. Actually, I don't use German, but French. Perhaps
it's a similar issue to the one you describe?

Another possible cause of my problem may be a particular file I was working
on yesterday--this file is an article sent to me for publication (I edit a
scholarly journal in French), which might have contained a bug. Since I had
to disable the Norton anti-virus Office plug-in yesterday, I feel very
vulnerable! I never had a Word crash with the Beta 2 version of Office, only
with this technical refresh. Once I had stripped all the formatting from the
file that was sent to me and had deleted its custom styles, Word didn't crash
any more. But until I got to that point, it must have crashed at least 40
times... I stubbornly kept trying. MS must have received 40 error messages
from me last night!

I don't use a Dell network printer (although the computer on which I have
this problem is from Dell), and I haven't had the courage yet to install
Vista on either my Dell computer or my tablet pc (Fujitsu). I have Office
Beta 2007 on both computers, but haven't yet used it much on the tpc as I
just downloaded the latest update 24 hours ago.

Thanks for your web site, I've added it to my favorites.

Did you by chance install the German language pack for an English Office
2007? If you did, you need to download and install the full German B2TR
patch (400+ MB plus) in addition to the B2TR patch for the German
language pack (a 130 MB download). The B2TR German language patch does
not include the German spellchecker, which is included only in the full
German B2TR patch. If the German spell checker is not upgraded to B2TR,
Word and Outlook crash pretty quickly when starting to type in German.
If that is not the case, do you have a Dell network printer as your
default printer (e.g. Dell 5100CN) and you are using Windows Vista RC1?
If that is not the case, disable all your add-ins in Word Options,
Add-Ins and see if that helps.
You should also read through the B2TR issues list on my website.

I have been trying to work with Word, but it crashes every 2 minutes (or
less). I have attempted to reach online support, each time to find that the
page online doesn't exist. None of the help pages exist either (I guess they
will become functional once the full version of Office 2007 is realeased?).

It is very odd that this latest update, which is supposed to be a major
improvement in Office 2007 Beta, is actually creating such problems that I
can no longer use Word.

I was quite enthusiastic, but I am now more than frustrated. I would be
interested to know if other people experience similar problems with this
latest release of the Beta software.

Catherine
