Re: Normal.dot and deletion of ~*normal.dot, recycle bin

Unfortunately I'll be unavailable for the next week. :-(

Yes those with the arrows are shortcuts. I'm still not certain about
what you are seeing exactly, but since we've narrowed it down to now
Word starts slowly, here is another article containing troubleshooting
steps for Word when you encounter errors or if it starts slowly:
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm

You've done most of this already - it doesn't hurt to do it all again
just to be sure. If you still have problems or questions then post in
the Word Application errors newsgroups - those who hang out are
familiar with errors specifically related to Word.

Good luck! (Sorry I couldn't be of more help.)

They were all files (Word icon). Two of them had something I had
never seen
before: A small black arrow that started at the bottom of the icon
anc
curved back toward the icon. I suspect these are the shortcuts,
right? And,
there were still no add-ins listed in the "Global Templates and
Add-Ins."
And, I use McAfee Antivirus. Beth, you've spent so much time on
this. I
became very ill yesterday and was so sorry I couldn't respond
sooner. What
would you like me to do?

No problem, Beth. I just appreciate your persistence! No,
there
are no
add-ins listed in the "Global Templates and Add-ins" section.

You said, "if so, exit Word and use Windows Search to locate
them,
the file
names to search for are listed in the dialog box."

I'm sorry, truly, am I missing something? Or, do I so something
else now
that there are no add-ins listed in the "Global Templates and
add-ins"
section?

If there weren't any global templates listed in the Templates and
Add-ins dialog box then there is nothing to search for. :-)

I use McAfee and it is always on and regularly scans every week.
I
know not
all viruses are found.

Yes, under files/folders search there are four: One in Recycle
Bin
(can
easily dump that), two in C:\Documents and
Settings\Dianna\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates -- neither of which could be opened with
right click
and one with the same location path but with this info in the
"description
box:"

TYPE: Microsoft Template
AUTHOR: Dianna Wilson
DATE MODIFIED: 9/16/2006 1:01 PM
SIZE: 31.0 KB

Again, only ONE had this last information and it COULD be opened
with right
click.

Are you sure one wasn't a shortcut for the Recent documents folder?

And, when I went back there was another folder created today
named
~$Normal.dot so, even though I right click each time I open one
of
these
folders a new one is created.

Is this a file or a folder? i.e. does the icon look like a Word
document icon or does it look like yellow folder?
