I'm a Microsoft Office Specialist Master Instructor.
But it's been several years since I've gone through any formal type of
interview process so I honestly don't know how the value potential
employers place on MOS certification. I do know from a
hiring/interviewing viewpoint that a lot of people claim they know the
Office applications when in reality they don't know much more than the
names of the applications and many employers have started testing
potential employees.
I do know that certification can't hurt and by taking the tests you
have an opportunity to evaluate your knowledge. During an interview,
those who have gone through a certification process are more confident
of themselves and their knowledge. Confidence that you have what it
takes to meet the employer's needs is a important aspect in any
interview.
Now, personally, I think the certification is an indicator that the
individual knows how to perform basic tasks in the applications and
there is some value in them - but due to the simplicity of the tests I
wouldn't consider someone to be an expert or master in Office just by
the certification alone.

Does anyone on this forum actually possess one of these
certificates? If so,
do potential employers seem to take them seriously?
