You can send feedback on your experience with Office 2007, including its planned pricing <g> directly to the MS Office product team
using the feedback tool from the link below.

The MS Office Basic OEM (new computer preinstall) edition is, as you note, is intended to be available only with a new PC, both for
the 2003 and 2007 editions. If you search the web for the 2003 edition you'll find it available separately, but often not at aprice
greatly different from the MS Office 2003 Standard Edition (packaged as Office 2003 Student Teacher Edition).

For Office 2007 that edition is the Home edition and, although you may not want/need a new computer at present, that edition can be
moved to a new computer should you want one at some point, where the OEM Basic edition cannot be moved once it's activated. Basic
editions are licensed to the machine, while other Office editions are licensed to the individiual.

As for MS Defender/One Care, wellllll, that's a story for a different newsgroup and time <g>.

I think that I understand the the final version of Office 2007 will not be
available until sometime next spring. I have been using the Beta version
since it was first made available, and basically I love it.

However, you know their is always a however, now being retired and a home
user I do have the need for the full Office Pro version. My needs are basic
and I desire only Excel, Outlook, and Word. Now if I have done my home work
properly Microsoft is ONLY allowing the big three as I call them to be
distribuited by computer mfg's and will not make that software package
available to the general public for purchase. The general publice will only
be allowed to purchase a package that contains 4-5 of the office suites.
Things they don't need nor want.

If that is correct , what on earth could possibly be the reason for

I suspect that their are a lot of old geezers like me who have used
Microsoft products for many years, who are very proficent on the computer and
desire the "Big Three" only. If you make that package available to the
computer mfg's, does it not make sense to make it availble to the general
public so they can purchase only what they need as opposed to having to buy
something they don't want nor probably would not use. Most of all it appears
the Microsoft is somehow helping the computer mfg's to sell more new
computers, and that is just plain wrong.

This may be a marketing issue, surely someone in the development and
technical side of the house can answer the question and hopefully go so far
as to help change to distribution procedures so that software package so it
is available to purchase from Microsoft.

PS: I don't need a new computer mine is only three years old with great
speed and power and I use XP Pro as my OS, plus everything on my system is
always upto date. I also have switched away from Norton and now use OneCare
Live and Defender (Beta), which I might add astounds me that Defender is
still a Beta version particuliarly when it is basically part of the
operational OneCare Live program. I said enough -------- appreicate any
comments and help you are willing to provide.
