Office 2003 & Firefox Issue.

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hello.

Our company is having a slowness issue with Office 2003 documents
(word, excel etc...) and Firefox. In my testing I've found that the
load time of Office documents to be less than 5-10 seconds. But if I
start and run Firefox and load various Office documents from the local
hard drive, network shares, desktop etc... That it will take at least
30 seconds and as long as 2 minutes. Once you start Firefox you can not
get the documents to load normally until you do a complete reboot. I
have tried stopping all non essential services and processes and then
trying to load Office documents with no change in the load time. So a
reboot is the only thing that resets the computer and allows it to load
Office 2003 documents at a reasonable speed.

Now one thing that is unusual is that if I go to my intranet site
(Share point) and click on the office forms listed there (Excel, word
etc...) they load up in less than 5-10 seconds in Internet Explorer
even though it takes up to 2 minutes from anywhere else on my computer.

We are in the process of doing an Office 2003 deployment and as it is
pushed out to users who have Firefox installed we are getting
complaints. For now I have users uninstall Firefox as a temporary fix
which seems to have completely addressed the issue of the documents
loading slowly. Also I have seen Firefox versions as old as 1.0.5
affected and as new as 1.5.0.6. I will cross post this to the Office
forums as well as I'm not sure who is at fault. I know we ran OfficeXP
without issue for a long time. Also since I have not seen any other
posts on this I'm assuming there is some other third party variable to
blame that in combination with Firefox is causing this.

Anyway I figure at least one post is better than none for anyone else
experience the same thing.

We are running IBM ThinkCentre PC's with Windows XP Professional SP1 &
SP2 with OfficeXP being upgraded to Office 2003. We also run SMS,
Norton Antivirus and an Anti-Messenger program that blocks or prevents
MSN, ICQ, AOL, Google Chat etc from running. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks!
