office not working

As of today my PC with Office XP stopped working. When I open any word
program, the window opens, along with a Windows Installer box that says
"preparing", it then swithes to "Installing: MS Word Feature". Then an
error window pops up that says Error 1706 Setup Cannot find the
required files....followed by This application is not installed for the
current user.
It's worked for several years, so I don't know why it would just say
this all the sudden. Is there a setting that changed that I can change
back maybe? I don't think I have the original disc any more.
