Error message trying to update Briefcase

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

When I try to update my briefcase containing .pst files, I receive the
following error message: "Some of the files were read-only. They were not
updated." Where and how can I turn off the read-only feature and why did this
happen all of a sudden? Is the problem with the original file on my computer
or is the problem on the server which I'm trying to update?
