Outlook2003 - calendar/email

I have 2 problems:
1. when I switch from email to calendar using the icon at the bottom left
of the outlook screen - in the calendar screen at the top left where the
monthly calendar is, I got to wait for a while before the dates are bold
(highlighted) for me to know which day I have appointment. why does it take
so long and worse, there are times it doesn't highlight? Can I solve this
problem and how?
2. when I click between two email (with the preview pane activated, i.e., I
see the message at the bottom half of the screen), it takes quite a while for
the preview pane to show the clicked email, this also happened when I move an
email to another folder, when I click on the next email, the preview pane
will still remain at the moved email - for quite a while before swithching,
why?
Does the above have anything to do with me having quite a number of folders
(abt 50) set in the outlook2003? if it is the case, what is the best
solution for me to keep (file) email that I want?
I am using Pentium 4 with XP SP2. Thanks.
