still a case of disappearing images

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I have Windows XP with SP3 on 6 new HP laptops (cloned) . Five of the six
machines display only placeholders where valid images should be (in both Word
& Powerpoint) in both the body & headers of documents. These images can be
seen in print preview, and any other preview view (ie. in SideBar in
Powerpoint). I have double checked the Picture placeholders and followed
steps in the related MVP article about 'inserting graphics from web', no
resolution. I did notice, however, that the images reappear (temporarily)
when they are repainted on the screen when another window is dragged over the
image in question. I have updated video drivers as well...

any thoughts? Reinstallation of office did not resolve problem.
