Why the Product Key is invalid..?

I bought a laptop several months ago and it came with a Microsoft Office S&T
Edition 2003 trial key and a Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 product key.. I
was using the Microsoft Office S&T Edition 2003 Trial for few months and now
it is already expired.. How to use the Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 product
key?? When I tried to convert, it said "You have not entered a valid product
key." What should I do? I need to continue working on my papers... It is
locked and I don't want to lose my papers which I saved using Microsoft
office S&T Edition 2003 Trial... Thx.
