Trouble with Landscape setting

I'm running Office 2000 on Windows XP. The problem I'm having in Word and
Excel is that when I try to change a document to Landscape from Portrait, the
paper changes but the text does not, it remains Portrait. Does anyone know
what is causing this or how to fix it?
