Hi Dennis,
When you open a file (in Word for example) temporary
files are created at the location of the open document.
If you remove the media location you can have problems.
In Word 2002/2003 you can use the setting in
Tools=>Options=>Save to [x] Always make a copy...
to reduce problems with diskettes.
If you swap a diskette once a file is open you can
end up with corrupted diskette files or a directory.
Copy the file to the hard drive if possible before
opening.

I open a file from floppy disk in MS Office application. If I ejected the
floppy disk before closed the Office application, the Office would hang and
