After furious head scratching, Eels N. Hovercraft asked:
| I'm trying to update Office on a friend's system. The system is
| running Windows 2000 Professional, with all current patches. The
| system has Office 2000 Professional SR-1 installed on it. My friend
| doesn't have the original install CD.
|
| On other systems, I've been able to install "Office 2000 Update:
| February 10, 2004" (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
| scid=kb;en-us;835220) which (in my experience) has eliminated the
| need for the original install CD to apply Service Pack 3. However,
| in the case of this system, when I run "office2000-kb835220-client-
| enu.exe" to install this update, it requests the original install CD.
|
| I don't expect to get a solution to this, based on Usenet posts and
| web pages where people have reported a similar problem but have not
| received an answer (except for "get a CD"). I just want to complain
| about Microsoft's decision to require the presence of a CD in order
| to do updates they recommend.
