Hmm... I'm running 2003 and I've just fired it up and the usage is about
40.6MB. If you compare this with Paint Shop Pro 8, it's about a third of the
RAM that the latter application uses. What version are you running? Word is
third in my list (at the moment I have PSP8 and PS8 running, and graphics
apps always use a lot). High memory usage doesn't tend to cause slowdowns
though, that's usually the CPU - is Word consuming many clock cycles? Are
you up to date on your Essential System Maintenance (defrag, checkdisk,
checking for spyware, virus checking, etc)? I would do a full maintenance
scan and see if that doesn't help. Is your virus checker up to date? There's
no point in scanning with an out of date checker. I would suggest
downloading Spybot from www.safer-networking.org and running a system-wide
scan. I'd also run a system-wide virus scan. Also, have you updated Office
and Windows lately (I assume, from your description you're either running
Windows 2000 or XP)? I would make sure you're up-to-date on all updates.
Other than that, I don't really know what to suggest.
