Hyperlinks to web sites not working

I find that hyperlinks in Office applications are no
longer able to trigger Internet Explorer. However, the
hyperlink will connect to a site if IE is activated first.

This is unique to Office applications. Hyperlinks in non
office documents will start up Internet Explorer.

Everything worked fine until I upgraded to a newer
version of Norton Internet Security. Deactivating NIS
does not make a difference.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.
