Chris,
Also for example, I tried to go to a couple of links listed on the site-one
including the link to join-and my McAfee Site Advisor blocked both sites
saying the "security certificate presented by this website was not issued by
a trusted certificate." Again, I'm wondering how widely recognized are these
certificates and if there would be a problem using them for external clients.

Windows is pre-populated with root certificates for Certification
Authorities like Verisign and Thawte. Client certificates issued by
these authorities are immediately accepted by browsers, Site Advisor,
Excel etc.. CACert is not one of the chosen few, so McAfee doesn't
trust it yet.

The user must add the root certificate for CACert to this list of
authorities (a simple process) and then client certificates issued by
CACert will also be accepted automatically. If the user doesn't want
to bother, then he can simply choose to trust all content signed by
VanS.

Hope this helps, Chris
