lets confuse you some more.

you say you want compatibility with both operating systems so i assume that
they are upgrading windows 2000 to windows xp. you should note that this
does not necessarily mean they are upgrading from office 2000 to office xp,
the latest version of office is office 2003 which is newer than office
2002/xp. and the office products are not included with the operating system
so they will have to install some version of ms office in addition to the
operating system to get excel on the machines. you should check to see
what version of ms office they are going to load and then configure a test
machine with windows xp and the proper version of office and test your excel
