ISTR that the JPG filter is an optional install component for PPT97. If it's
installed, you can save as JPG and/or use the Slide.Export method to save a
single slide as JPG. If the filter's not installed, then you can't make JPGs.

Try rerunning Setup, choose a custom install and check your graphics options
carefully.
