Metadata Extract Program for MSG files

I am writing a program that converts e-mail messages to PDF format for review
within a PDF viewer. As part of the viewer, I need to display the original
message's metadata (this includes metadata for attachments as well).

Can anyone refer me to a program/utility or sample code that extracts
metadata from e-mails? I will store the metadata in a separate XML file per
e-mail MSG so I can load the PDF and XML into the document management system
for review.
