Outlook Synchronisation Needed (from WWW to local)

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Hello to all:
I need some kind of expert advice in a somewhat complicated situation
that I'll try to explain... If I should forward this message to some
Outlook-specific group and you know which, please tell me so. Thanks
in advance.

I have a scenario where a centrally managed set of events (tasks with
a reminder date and time set) in a ASP.Net app (VS 2005) needs to be
synchronised to a client calendar application. The local calendar
application to be synchronised is Outlook (O2003 and upper versions).
The final solution should be as much as possible independent from the
Outlook version which is a problem with automation due to some
differences in the object model through versions as I understand it.

The start event of the synch is a request by the end user to in a web
app to update its local calendar. This all works well for new events
if for instance we use a iCalendar file as the web response.
The problem is that on the scheduling app (the web app) the events CAN
be changed afterwards and that should be synchronisable (again at
user's request) to the local calendar.
As Outlook won't support well iCalendar modifications I gave up that
line of work.
Events can be modified centrally as well as deleted, and that changes
must be reflected on the local calendar (always at user's request or
at least with user's confirmation).
So I am left with automation. Am I right on this?
And if so, what are the drawbacks of client side automation?
How can I perform client side automation (JavaScript, ASP.Net)?
Isn't this too much too likely to fail locally since some browser
security settings won't even allow it? Is there a solution for client
side automation that works both in MS IE and Mozilla FireFox (2)?

On other side, I have seen some recent trends that allow to publish
one Outlook calendar to the Web. I am trying to achieve the opposite.
But is there a new set of APIs published to achieve this? Maybe
there's something new (Web Services) regarding this synch needs (web,
local). Any insight for this also?

Thanks for annnnyyyyy help and/or thoughts on these issues,
P.Sllva, PORTUGAL
