In WMP 10 I could add a folder to add an album. I could add a *.m3u file
and add a new playlist to my library. In WMP 11 my only choice (that I can
see) is to have it 'monitor' folders for changes. I store my music in
C:\CDRIPS\artist\album name. I also have about 15 folders that are not
albums, they contain around 100 individual songs. There is a *.m3u for
each folder and it picks that up. But it makes every *.mp3 an ALBUM in
those folders. Worse, I have different tracks of the same name that I want
to keep because they are different mixes or different bitrates. If, by
chance, one of these songs is also in one of my 'Albums' it adds it to the
individual Album file as well. I am in the process of going through each
Album and 'deleting from the library' those other duplicate filenames with
different pathnames. WMP 10 added all of the singles as albums at first.
But I was able to delete them 'from the library' ONCE and maintain my
collection by manually adding new folders or playlists. I was then able to
copy the *.wmdb databases to my Media Center 2005 'user account' and have
the identical material both on my computer and on the Media Center Extender.
It was so easy. Is there a way to add a folder to WMP11? If I monitor with
the option to leave previously deleted entries not to be picked up, I get
NOTHING. I used to use CDex for ripping my CD's because I could use the
superior LAME encoder with VBR. I still can because it is 'new' to my
'library.' But it is so much easier to use WMP11 'RIP' option but I have to
use 320KHz bitrates to sound like LAME VBRs..
Obviously I must have inadvertantly deleted those other mp3's which were
from individual albums. BUT why were they not picked up as Albums in the
first place???? The only way out of this mess is to 'add all previously
deleted material' from my monitored folders and study why WMP11 missed them
in the Advanced Tag Editor. But what a job! And before this I have to
compare the Album 'library' to the folders in Windows Explorer to make sure
I'm not missing anything.
Again, is there a way to add a folder manually in WMP11? (I know I can add
it's path but it's Parent folder is already there!) AND why does take so
long to update the media library? My machine is fast. In WMP10 this was
done in seconds. Now it takes many minutes to do this. I can't tell you
exactly how long because I do something else while that process is working
in the background.
The thing that really makes me angry is that it takes my SCANNED album art
(folder.jpg) and replaces it with a much smaller and inferior (and sometimes
incorrect) folder.jpg & AlbumArtSmall.jpg I deal with that by clicking on
the two original *.jpg's and copy and paste them in the same folder. In
that way, my originals are always there in files named "Copy of folder.jpg;
Copy of AlbumArtSmall.jpg" But I have to go to each folder and make the
changes. I have about 35 Gb of music with over 300 albums. That's a lot of
work.
thanks a lot for your time and interest.

Define "not picking up your albums correctly"? What do you specifically
mean?
How are you trying to add an album or playlist? Drag and drop them onto
the library. Or add that folder to your Monitored Folder. What mechanism
were you expecting?

I HAVE to use it so my 'network enabled Onkyo HT-RC180' can play music
from my computer. I HATE MP11. It's not picking up my albums correctly
and there is no way I can see to simply ADD an Album or a Playlist. AND
updating it's database is incredibly slow on my 3.2GHz PC! WTF!

Neither of you mentions any specific issues, so it's hard to be helpful.
=)
Since WMP11 was an upgrade, just uninstall it - it'll automatically
restore WMP10 (or your previous version) upon uninstall. =)
