Right, I'd think the player would know about them. I'm curious if they're ending up in different locations according to the two copy methods - that might imply that your player only understands one given file location(?).

Hi,
My mp3 player before the last update contain 60 mp3 songs.
Tried to add 6 songs using WMP11 with Vista32 Ultimate.
The 6 songs added are in the folder of my mp3 because if I try to add the
same song in the mp3 player a warning message of WMP tell me that the song is
still on the device.Using this method the 6 songs added are not visible on
the lcd display of my mp3 player.
If I use to send the mp3 songs to my device the windows function "send To"
this work and the songs are visualized on the lcd display of my mp3 player,as
66 songs.
Thank you

If you browse the device after the player syncs to them, do the files show
up in subfolders on the device... ? The question I'd have whether the files
are not there or if the device simply doesn't know how to find them once
they are there.
