Re: MPG Video wouldn't fit into DVD

Not definitively. Play this file in Windows Media Player. Go to
File:Properties in WMP - what is the Length listed there?

OK! Thanks! I took your hint, clicked on the headers and, finally, added
"length". However, the length colomn is empty. What does it mean?

Thanks for the lesson in using another feature of Windows!
Ed.

You've never to my knowledge mentioned what version of Windows you're
using,
so I wouldn't be able to do that. Should just be clicking on the column
headers in Details view.

Hi zachd,
Thanks very much for your efforts to help. Can you, please, explain how
should I turn on the 'Duration' colums in Explorer? I couldn't find
antwhere
how to do so. And, no, the length is not visible when I play the file
(and
it
does play well...!)
Thanks again,
Ed

If you play it in a player and it doesn't have the length visible or
available, or if you turn on the "Duration" column in Explorer and it
doesn't mention the length in time, then the clip is corrupt as far as
I'm
aware and that's probably why it's not working.

Properties are:
File Type: Movie Clip
Size: 1.79GB
It doesn't mention length in time.

Great, now play the file in any player. Or view the Properties in
Explorer - how long is it? =)

I am sorry. I failed to mention that I am using a videao capture
system:
One
Touch Video Capture, Model: VC500, by Diamond Multimedia. Once I
caprured
it,
I could view the file on my computer and it is 1.9GB.

You previously said it was a 1.9GB MPEG file - how do you know
that
information?

The TDK Hi8 tape isn't playable directly on your computer, so
that's
relevant. To burn it you would have to copy it in some fashion
to
your
PC.

Thanks for your response, zachd. I am sorryb but I don't know.
All I
do
know
is that this a TDK, Hi8 tape and it is full. Is there anyway
to
estimate
the
time duration without actually running the tape from start to
finish?
Ed.

"zachd [MSFT]" wrote:

1.9GB is a file size, not time length. What duration is the
video?

A "DVD" would play on a DVD player. A data DVD could be used
to
transfer
or
store files.

I am burning it as a DVD Video. I didn't know there was an
option
to
burn
it
as a file. What is the difference?
Thank you,
Ed

Are you burning it as a *file* or as DVD Video?

I am trying to burn a 1.9 Gbyte long MPG video into a
4.7GByte
DVD. I
am
getting a message that it will not fit and that it
exceeds
the
time
limit.
Can someone, please, explain the dichotomy?
Thanks,
Ed
