RE: WMP 11 error C00D11B1

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

80040241: Cannot perform the requested action
Windows Media Player cannot perform the requested action. You might
encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:
You tried to play a .dvr-ms file (such as a file created by the Personal
Video Recorder (PVR) in Windows XP Media Center Edition), and your computer
is not configured to play this type of file.
To resolve the problem, see the Microsoft Download Center.
You tried to play a file type that is not supported by Windows Media Player.
For a list of file types (formats) that are supported by Windows Media
Player, see Supported file types.

I will try to keep my question brief. In Photo Gallery I try to play video
footage that I was previously able to play and "This video can't be
displayed" error occurs. Used to be able to click on any video footage in
Photo Gallery and it would automatically play in WMP. And I would also burn
footage onto DVD through WMP.

Then I tried to right click on footage icon and open with WMP, and "WMP
encountered a problem while playing the file - click web help" message
appeared. After clicking on web help, this led me to the above error code
C00D11B1 (supposedly something to do with a sound card which all says is
working but obviously is not) and technical details of original error code
being 80040241.

Then I thought I'd try to open my video footage with Media Player Classic
(this used to work as well!) It came up with a warning: Media Player
Classic could not render some of the pins in the graph, may not have the
needed codecs or filters. Following pin: Audio Switcher :: Out.

I close and the footage with then play but there is no sound. Now when I
try to listen to any sound on my computer at all, there is none. And my
device manager says that everythink is AOkay.

I have been mucking around for weeks, on and off, trying to figure out what
has suddenly happened and I only seem to be making things worse so I am
really hoping someone can help me. I have even tried system restore and that
fails as well. I cannot pinpoint the exact time different things started
happening and I'm trying to rack my brain as to what I may have done
differently or downloaded or installed around the same times as things
started going wrong?

Please help!!!?????? I have Windows Vista Home Premium and my WMP came with
the computer. I assume I have WMP11 because when I tried to download WMP11
it said I already had a more recent version on my system???? Talk about how
to confuse a girl!

Please let me know if I can give you any more info that may help you help me!

Thank you.
