This happened to me aswell, and for some reason it fixed when I installed
Windows XP Service Pack 3. You can download the release candidate here:

technical support line, that it's due to be fully released before the end of
February, and that there'll be no problems updating from the release
candidate to the full version. I'm not sure why it fixed it, maybe I had a
corrupt system file or something, but it might work for you too.
