May not be correct newsgroup but not sure where to go for answer/help.

Have several old cassette tapes with interviews on them.
Sample I'm working on:
Recorded(mono, 16 bit, 8000hz) to my HD and saved as wav(40meg) and
mp3(12meg).
Would like to burn to cd so folks can play on home or car cd systems and
hear they parents, grandparents, talk about when they where young.
This interview runs 135 minutes.

Burned mp3 to cd as mp3 and won't play in car system.
Tired to burn as "audio cd" but cd 'storage' isn't large enough.

suggestions/help or can it NOT be done?

Some modern CD stand alone players will play mp3 and/or wma formats if
recorded properly on a CD, but many do not including older ones, many
less expensive ones, and car ones. Thus you will have to record in the
standard CD PCM format. Unlike many tape formats and DVDs, there is
only one PCM standard for audio CDs, and the maximum playing time is
somewhat over one hour. You will have to use 2 CDs to record 135
minutes. You can find thin CD cases no thicker than a standard CD
jewel box to hold 2 CDs which will help keep the two part CDs of the
recording together.

I might add that it would be possible to put your mono on one CD if
you recorded in mono on one track only. Not all burning programs will
do this. Moreover, it will be inconvenient to perhaps not possible to
play such recordings on some stand alone CD players. It might work on
on a player that has a balance control with a wide enough range to
completely turn off one channel. Then for the second track, you would
have to turn the balance control to turn off the sound just played to
hear the second mono track properly. Having to do all of this, even if
it works, could be quite annoying, especially in a car.
