WMP 11 won't play internet video clips

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

I use an OEM version of Vista Home Premium 64 and recently installed an
Nvidia 8600 GTS 256 (silent) graphics card.

All the latest updates for Vista and the latest Nvidia drivers (off Windows
update web site) are installed.

I absolutely cannot watch any internet video clips now, e.g. web site of a
German news channel www.tagesschau.de whether I sepcify internal or external
player, Windows Media Player 11 immediately becomes unresponsive and won't
kick in, even after I've waited for several minutes.

Lots of hard disk activity and when I eventually go into task manager to
kill off WMP11 the CPU activity is permanently in excess of 90%.

I spent serious money on this new rig and at present it cannot do what my
previous PCs could.

Any help appreciated.
