Lynx, I think I gave you some erroneous information about the DMA settings.
After installing the VLC player, I still had some problems with color, and
eventually jitteriness again. I then went back to Device Manager / IDE
devices and saw the Samsung DVD-ROM setting on PIO.
I tried to change it to DMA, but it is still in PIO mode. I could have
swore that it was at the same setting as my LiteOn CDRW (Ultra DMA), but
maybe I was wrong.

rustyfender04,
As soon as you mentioned particular DVD-player brand.
Misbehaving of DVD players may be caused by many things.
1st I usually trying to keep firmware up to date. You have to research
though what reflashing can give to you specifically in those areas which
are problematic.
Then it could be a 3rd party Software installed on you comp., which may
interfere and sometimes just a few tweak in registry will do. An example
would be Nero and it's Filters default settings.
Etc. and so on.
The note concerning VLC and Classic players mentioned. My personal
opinion - Yes I am using those and I am practically not using WMP at all
for anything.
I am not trying to convert you. You may like WMP and you may have reasons.
My reason to try VLC as 1st thing on the way to identify problem at least
in this situation is the following:
- it is extremely solid media player and DVD player;
- it does not require any codecs installed separately;
- WMP as you see even from this group has enormous amount of bugs. Why
would one try to solve a problem (any prob.) using problematic software.
That's mainly it for now.
A few things to add (...but after you try VLC :-)
Check your existing, codecs (see if any broken) with this utility
