Mono sound issue

I have Windows XP SP2 and am using Windows Media Player 11. I can play, see
and hear all video formats that have stereo sound just fine. When I play a
..wmv file that has mono sound I can see the video but can not hear the
sound. This is only a problem if the viedo is a mono embedded/saved sound
issue.
Everything else seems to work fine.
Any ideas?
