If the file have codec WMV inside you will to have to donwload only the codec pack from microsoft( WMP codec pack, in your case WMP 11 Codec pack)

Try see the codec's inside with AviCodec, then with the codec's name from botton, select the tab "codecs and filters" to find the codec's.
