Podcasts plays through the center speaker only

I'm experiencing a problem in Windows Media Player under Windows Vista, where most podcasts play only through the center speaker of my 5.1 surround setup.

This only happens in Windows Media Player, other audio applications play the same files through the two front speakers. Windows Media Player can play normal music files through all of the speakers.

Having the files play this way prevents me using headphones!

My sound device is the onboard sound on an Asus P5B Deluxe/WIFI-AP motherboard, using the Windows Vista drivers available on the Asus download site.
