Re: WMP 11 not playing 1 Channel MP3s

Thanks for the thoughts and ideas

A little more information:

This is the file (it's for my Harry Potter fan daughter -- really),
but I've had the same problem with audio books I've down loaded that
are in mono also. I've also had problems mono MP3s playing at high
speed, before converting them to stereo.

It was the same file both at work and at home: (I'm not offended --
I've done ever stupider things to embarrass myself)

At work, WMP11 plays in mono

At home, I have to use DBpowerAMP to convert to stereo before
it plays

Experimented, and found that iTunes will play it properly

Re: Napster

If I DC the MP3 file, I get the "Napster not installed" annoying
screen.

If I start WMP from my shortcut ("C:\Program Files\Windows Media
Player\wmplayer.exe" /prefetch:1 /Task Library /fullscreen
/Schema:Music) or from Run WMplayer.exe, then I don't see the Napster
screen and it goes to the Library.

So don't think it's a DRM issue

This is a short file, so I downloaded a 1:40 file.

New info -- this larger file (also mono) seems to have the play time
position counter moving at regular speed, but no sound coming out

I did check for Mute On (twice)

Q: Think I should jsut give up?

Greetings,

(Do you see anything.

I c nothing, noting! wrong.

WMP plays those files for sure as your experiment at work proves.

I believe you played the same mono file there (please, don't be offended).

. MPLAYER2.exe (v6.4) will play it.. uses different codecs that WMP11

I may be wrong but as far as I know they both use the same "legal"/licensed
decoder FraunHofer

One thing is interesting though:

this time you've mentioned Napster and WMP's annoying messages. It was
nothing about it in your initial post. How come? Did you step in that dirt?
I mean DRM (I like 2 use synonyms).

If this is true I will just update my knowledge base called "How to
remove/strip DRM" with a new stripper - DBpopwerAmp. What version are u
using?

Anyway if it works I would convert and have playable lectures and audio
books.

Files are bigger when you go Mp3 to Mp3 but if supported u may produce much
smaller files with practically no lose by converting those voice files to
wma (version 9.2 or pro, 64kbps. 44kHz, stereo, CBR)

Cheers
